NEED FOR EMERGENCY FAMINE RELIEF

On January 14, 2009 FIOH-USA wired $2, 950.00 to FIOH-Kenya. It included $1000.00 for hunger relief, $650.00 for an artificial leg for the man featured in our November 2008 edition of Harambee, and the remainder of the school fees for 2009.

In the picture at right people are lined up at the Posho Mill (grinds corn and other grains) in Kaloleni to receive free grain. FIOH-USA provided the funding for the mill, a bore-hole well and grain donations in this village.

Today we received the following email from Rom, the coordinator of FIOH-Kenya.

"Thanks for the wire transfer. It has come at the right time as this is the third week since schools opened here. The famine situation is also getting out of hand. The Government has declared food shortage a national disaster. For our HIV programme, sadly we lost one male client from a slum called Kaloleni. We hope to stem the hunger they face.
Thanks for the support that gives hope to the hopeless."
